Art Harris, M.D.
Arthur Harris, MD completed medical
school at the University of Arkansas, an
internship and residency at the University
of Tennessee, Memphis, a fellowship at the
University of California, San Diego, and
served our country at the Naval Regional
Medical Center in San Diego before
starting his Otolaryngology practice in
Johnson City. He is clinical professor of
surgery-otolaryngology at the Quillin
College of Medicine and also sees patients
at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City.
He is board certified in Otolaryngology. He
and his wife have two grown daughters.
His interests outside of medicine include
family, fishing, hiking, music, sports,
reading, good food, and spending time
with good friends.
Mark Howell, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Mark Howell, MD has been with Ear, Nose
& Throat Associates since 1984, after
having completed Otolaryngology residency
at the University of Tennessee at Memphis.
He completed medical school in Memphis
and training at Erlanger Hospital in
Chattanooga. Dr. Howell was born in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his wife
have raised their family in Johnson City and
remain active in the community. He is a
Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
and a Clinical Associate Professor with the
Department of Surgery at East Tennessee
State University’s Quillen College of
Medicine. Dr. Howell has served as Chief of
Surgery at Johnson City Medical Center and
Chief of Staff, Department of Surgery at
Franklin Woods Community Hospital. He
enjoys travel and spending time with his
family and friends.
Tim Zajonc, M.D.
Bruce Abkes, M.D.
Johnathan Winstead, M.D.
Timothy Zajonc, MD (rhymes with “science”)
is originally from Texas, where he attended
the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Zajonc
completed a general surgery internship in
Lubbock, TX before training in
Otolaryngology at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center. He joined
Ear, Nose & Throat Associates in 2001 and
enjoys practicing all facets of
otolaryngology. His primary pursuits outside
of medicine are skiing in the mountains of
North Carolina and spending time with his
wife and three children.
Bruce Abkes, MD is originally from Iowa. Dr.
Abkes came to East Tennessee State
University as an intern in surgery before
advancing to his specialty training. He
finished his Otolaryngology residency at the
University of Iowa and joined Ear, Nose &
Throat Associates in 2006. His interests
outside medicine include computers, green
technologies, design and construction using
reclaimed materials, the production of
biodiesel, practical scientific experiments,
and spending time with his wife and son.
Dr. Winstead began his practice at Ear,
Nose, and Throat Associates in the summer
of 2008. A native of North Carolina, he did
his undergraduate training at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before
completing his medical degree at the James
H. Quillen College of Medicine at East
Tennessee State University. Dr. Winstead
trained in Otolaryngology at Geisinger
Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania
before returning to Northeastern Tennessee
to join Ear, Nose & Throat Associates. He
enjoys camping, learning to play guitar, and
spending time with his wife and six children.
